This was a legendary day on the Kenai River for angler Joel Atchison who landed and released a potential World Record King Salmon with me. Joel is a true sportsman and a great fisherman. It takes more than just luck to land a fish like that, it takes skill, stamina, and the mental toughtness to fight a fish for 40 minutes without one single mistake. I will be adding the full story soon, but for now lets leave it at this…whether or not the fish would have made the mark, the important thing is that the right guy caught it and put his money where his mouth is. He bought into my philosophy of catch and release on these truly special fish and released this trophy KNOWING that it might have been the one. It’s no doubt the largest ever released. Thanks to Joel for allowing this fish to spawn and making more trophies for the future. I hope it inspires others to do the same.
