Reel Adventures is a lifelong dream for guide John Whitlatch. John grew up just outside of Palmer Alaska, where he began fishing the Susitna drainage at a young age. As John grew older he began to branch out and explore much of what his home state had to offer. From the Nushagak to the Situk Rivers, John was able to hone his Salmon and trout fishing skills. After a trip to Nebraska for college, John found his way back to his home state and settled on a career of sport fishing.
John did some guiding around the state and eventually settled on the Kenai Peninsula. In 1995 Reel Adventures was born. John chose the Kenai Peninsula because of its vast salmon & trout populations. The Kenai River is often regarded as one of the finest King Salmon Rivers in the world. For John the Kings were just one focal point of Reel Adventures, Rainbow trout would be the other. The Kenai provides world class Rainbow fishing in some of Alaska’s most pristine wilderness.
John makes his summer home and base of operations in Soldotna Alaska. In the wintertime, when the Kenai is covered in ice, he ventures south to continue angling around the world. Fishing is more than a job for John, it is truly his passion. He has traveled from the mountain slopes of Washington to the Islands of Fiji on the hunt for the next challenge.
The future of Reel Adventure is strong. John will travel the Pacific Northwest this fall and continue to head south to Mexico, Belize, and finally Costa Rica in the spring. As Reel Adventures begins to grow there will be new opportunities to fish with John around the world. In fall & winter 2010 John will be hosting fishing trips in the state of Washington. These trips will be tailored to fit each groups aspirations. From the Pacific coast to the eastern slopes of the Cascades John will guide & entertain anglers on some of Washington’s most scenic and pristine Steelhead and Salmon rivers. Watch this website for future information about hosted trips this fall.
Along with John, Aly Stevens has joined the team in 2010. An avid fisherwoman her whole life, Aly put in her time to gain the knowledge and experience needed to be a world class guide. Born on the banks of NW Montana’s Flathead River and raised in Alaska, Aly has the outdoors in her blood. Passionate about fishing and the conservation of trophy fish, it was only natural progression that she would become part of the Reel Adventures team. She is skilled and versatile, putting people on trophy salmon, trout and steelhead with fly rods, center pins, and float rods from Alaska to Washington.
John and Aly begin fishing Methow River in Washington Oct 20, 2010. You can catch up with them there by calling 907-252-7335 or 907-775-1212 and checking availability.
